Learn how to improve your COVID-19 survival chances by 70-90%

Vitamin D3 – Your Best Option for Covid-19. According to this study, if your Vitamin D3 levels are in the deficient range, you have a 99% chance of dying if you get COVID-19.  If your Vitamin D3 levels are above normal this number drops to as little as 4%.   In other words, if your Vitamin D3 levels are adequate, you improve your chances by 95%.  Even though this study was withdrawn, when one looks at the results and compare with other studies shown below, one can easily conclude that Vitamin D serum levels of 25(OH)D above 25 ng/ml have a positive effect on the severity of COVID19.  Study #3 below, indicates that a person deficient in vitamin D had the greatest benefit of 70% reduction in risk of respiratory infections by taking Vitamin D supplements or getting outdoors in the sun.

This article reviews some key studies and provides links for all you need to know about Vitamin D and other key supplements.  This is absolutely incredible news!

Most Americans are Vitamin D Deficient

We now know that 42% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D.   You would be even at higher risk of a deficiency if you are over 65, if you use sunscreen, if you are taking medications, and if you have darker skin color.  Most importantly if you have comorbidity diseases which complicate COVID-19 disease, you would most likely be deficient in Vitamin D.

Their are two groups of people most susceptible to COVID19. The elderly that make up almost half of the COVID-19 deaths.  These people usually do not take Vitamin D supplements and hardly go out into the sunshine,  The second group of people are those with darker skin color, mainly blacks, asians, and hispanics.  Their darker skin produces less vitamin D from sunlight. These persons make up about 30% of the deaths.  So it is important to take vitamin supplements.  However, you should know your Vitamin D serum level as a starting point. See Get your own home test kit below.

Vitamin D works for many diseases

The chart below shows that most Americans are deficient in Vitamin D with levels about 25 ng/ml, and shows deficiency below 30 ng/ml,  What is interesting about this well known chart, is that serum levels of 40-60 ng/ml are necessary to prevent the Majority of Diseases. Your doctor and the CDC won’t tell you this.  This chart fits right into the Title of this article – Vitamin D3 – Your Best Option for COVID-19.

Vitamin D & COVID-19 Immunity (this is significant)

Is Vitamin D3 – Your Best Option for Covid-19. In this video Dr. Roger Seheult of MedCram discusses Vitamin D & COVID-19 Immunity, The Endothelium, & Deficiencies. In the specific Vitamin D review article Immunologic Effects of Vitamin D on Human Health and Disease, published into peer reviewed journal Nutrients has compelling implications for COVID-19 and overall vascular and endothelial health.

The study cited, over 200 references, covers over 9 years and 365,000 participants, with over 10,000 deaths. The specific article discussed is Vitamin D status and risk of all-cause and cause specific mortality in a large cohort: results from the UK Biobank.  Focusing on COVID-19, one of the results of the study, for healthy adults living in New England shows a 2-fold reduction in developing acute upper respiratory tract infection for persons with serum hydroxy D levels of 39 ng/ml or more.

Also cited was a reduction in all cause mortality associated with vitamin D levels 45 to 60 ng/ml.  “Although the efficacy of vitamin D is still unclear as the results of ongoing clinical trials are still pending, it is advisable that one should maintain adequate vitamin D intake to achieve the desirable serum 25(OH)D level of 40-60 ng/ml. (100-150 mol/L) in order to minimize the risk and severity of COVID-19 infection.  It is well documented that worldwide on average approximately 40% of children and adults have circulating levels of 25(OH)D <20 ng/ml. (50 nmol/L) and approximately 60% <30ng/ml. (75 mol/L). Thus, patients presenting to the hospital with COVID-19 are likely to have vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency…..”

Vitamin D Resource Page

Dr. Mercola recommends an optimal level of 50-70 ng/ml as well as other information.  Consequently,  I recommend reading his Vitamin D Resource Page.

On one page is a Vitamin D Levels chart for 25 Hydroxy D that shows:

  1. Deficient < 50 ng/ml
  2. Optimal 50-70 ng/ml
  3. Treat Cancer 70-100 ng/ml
  4. Excess >100 ng/ml

Vitamin D3 and K2 Connection

If you are going to take Vitamin D3 supplements, you should also take Vitamin K2.   As a result, this will prevent calcium from depositing in places where you don’t want it.  Also on Dr. Mercola’s Vitamin D Resource Page, he has an excellent interview where he discusses the connection between Vitamin D and K2 – Here is a link for the Dr. Mercola and Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue Interview – Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox

Vitamin K Deficiency Leads to Poor COVID-19 Outcome

Dr. Mobeen Syed does an excellent job of explaining a paper that relates the outcome of COVID-19 to the deficiency of Vitamin K.

Vitamin K is extremely important.  Most people are deficient, and it is easy to supplement.

Vitamin K2 Dosage

What is the correct amount of K2 to take? – You can take a lot of Vitamin K2 as it is not known to be toxic. In addition, most people are deficient in K2. Furthermore, in the article they indicate the optimal ratios between vitamin D and K2 have yet to be determined. However, the doctor recommends that for every 1,000 IUs of vitamin D, you can benefit from about 100 to 200 micrograms of vitamin K2.

Vitamin D Toxicity

You will here from many doctors that you can get Vitamin D Toxicity.   Most of them know nothing about supplements.  Their recommendation is on the very very conservative side and they rarely suggest getting your level checked.  Here is a good Healthline article on 6 Side Effects of Too Much Vitamin D.

Most of the side effects are related to having too much calcium in the blood (Vitamin D makes Calcium more available) and if there isn’t enough Vitamin K2, then the calcium will deposit in the arteries, and the muscles. So it is very important to take K2 (preferably K2-MK-7 the more bioavailable form).   This directs the calcium to deposit in the bones where it belongs.

The Study – #1

Again, Vitamin D3 – Your Best Option for Covid-19. This study results were described in this article by the Daily Mail: Terrifying chart shows how Covid-19 patients who end up in hospital may be almost certain to die if they have a vitamin D deficiency.

A graphic, pictured, shows how the Covid-19 death rate is affected by the level of Vitamin D.

Note: This study was withdrawn, however the results, in combination with other studies indicate the high value of Vitamin D, especially at levels above 40-60 ng/ml.

  • Indonesian experts analyzed hospital records of 780 people who tested positive
  • 98.9% of COVID-19 patients defined as vitamin D deficient — below 20 ng/ml — died
  • Yet this fell to just 4.1% for patients who had enough of the nutrient, data showed
  • The study has since been withdrawn following criticism about its methodology
  • Because it did not take into account that patients were older and likely to have health woes

Researchers warned the study was not definitive, however, because the patients with high vitamin D levels were healthier and younger.

It comes as health chiefs are urgently reviewing the use of vitamin D as a coronavirus lifesaver, with several studies suggesting that COVID-19 patients are far more likely to die if they have a deficiency.

One investigation – carried out by Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge – found European countries with lower vitamin D levels have had significantly more pandemic casualties.

Even though the study was withdrawn on account of patients being older and likely with health woes, it still suggests that adequate Vitamin D levels provide a level of protection, and we are seeing this in other studies. Again: Vitamin D3 – Your Best Option for Covid-19

The Study – #2

The Possible Role of Vitamin D in Suppressing Cytokine Storm and Associated Mortality in COVID-19 Patients

This study on vitamin D correlated an inverse relation of Vitamin D levels and CRP (C Reactive Protein).  CRP levels increase with the severity of COVID-19 so this study indicates that higher Vitamin D levels would reduce CRP, or severity of the disease.

Conclusion Given that CRP is a surrogate marker for cytokine storm and is associated with Vitamin D deficiency, based on retrospective data and indirect evidence we see a possible role of Vitamin D in reducing complications attributed to unregulated inflammation and cytokine storm. Further research is needed to account for other factors through direct measurement of Vitamin D levels in COVID-19 patients.

Dr. Campbell and Study – #3

As a result of a key Vitamin D Study, this video on Vitamin D by Dr. Campbell a Doctor of Nursing discusses that the Study confirms vitamin D protects against colds and fluThe study determined that a deficiency in vitamin D has been linked to increased severity of viral infections.  As well, supplements reduce the risk of contracting respiratory tract infections.  This study was a Meta Analysis, of Randomized, Double Blind, Placebo Controlled Trials of supplementation of Vitamin D3 or Vitamin D2.  The study included 10,933 persons.   This is a significant, well respected high level study.

This is an easy to understand video by a Dr. that really understands the issues associated with a viral infection such as COVID19.   He has a daily update on the virus with a very fresh, clean, easy to understand approach.  In short, the study confirmed that Vitamin D protects against colds (corona virus) and flu (virus).  Consequently, the investigators found that daily or weekly supplementation had the greatest benefit for individuals with the most significant vitamin D deficiency (blood levels below 10 mg/dl) — cutting their risk of respiratory infection in half — and that all participants experienced some beneficial effects from regular vitamin D supplementation.

  • More on Safety

In this study, vitamin D did not influence risk of serious events of any cause,   Dr. Campbell discusses the side effects of high levels of vitamin D such as Hypercalcaemia and Renal Stones.  However, the risk was exactly the same for both groups, those that took the Vitamin D as well as those that took the placebo.  In short, no risk.

I strongly recommend this video an excellent explanation of how Vitamin D works in the immune system and the results of Study #3 above.

Vitamins that I Take

At 73 years old, consequently I didn’t need to see the COVID19 pandemic interfering with my life.  Additionally,  I am sure most of you reading this article feel the same way.   When looking at risk, it helps to have data, and the COVID-19 data has been obviously marred by political opportunism.   We have now seen agencies such as the CDC and NIH and the WHO dish out bad data.  We have also gotten a bit of a glimpse into the the political quagmire just over drugs.  Currently, we have no cure for this virus and we may not need one.   There are good therapeutics and supplements that will do just fine.

My Experience

As a result of years of taking vitamins, I learned about the effectiveness of these supplements through my doctor, an MD as well as a Naturopath, who has a PhD in Molecular Biology.   It was his protocols that saved my life with Lyme Disease.   Today, I am not on any prescription drugs, however, I do take supplements. I’ve been taking supplements, sometimes Megadoses, over 40 years.   I have taken Vitamin D dosages at 20,000 IU per day for over 5 years, being careful to take vitamin K to prevent hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood).  My studies and associations with knowledgable people have helped me to focus my radar on supplements to protect myself from the COVID-19 disease while the world waits for a cure.

What I take

Vitamin D3 – 5,000 IU

Vitamin K2-Mk7 – 1000 mcg. No Toxicity

Magnesium – helps activates D3 – 2 grams of Magnesium L-Threonate

Vitamin A – 5,000 IU

Zinc – 30mcg

Vitamin C – 3,000 mg

Disclaimer:

I am not a doctor so use this information for a starting point. Everyone should be doing their own research especially if they are on medications.   Most doctors will not object to a patient taking Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2, Magnesium, Zinc or Vitamin A and C.   Your insurance may not cover Blood tests for Vitamin D.  I recommend you get the home test kit described above to see if you are deficient.  Then use the test results to discuss with your doctor a supplement approach.  GO IN WITH THE TEST RESULTS IN YOUR HAND. Still today, Vitamin D3 – Your Best Option for Covid-19.
