The unit also comes with 10 feet of 2-1/2 inch intake hose. Additionally, the cam-lock on the front of the pump means no tools are required for connecting the hose. Another important aspect of this pump is the flush port for a garden hose. After use, the pump can be flushed of the corrosive pool water. This keeps the pump in pristine condition for many years.
Four important items to keep your pump running pristine
- Use the short hose supplied with this pump for testing. If you want to dry it out real well use a leaf blower or the blower output from a shop vacuum. Keep the 100 foot hose rolled up for long term storage. This keeps mildew from building up inside the hose.
- After testing the pump, use fresh water from the tap to flush out the pump. Use a garden hose to direct water into the pump inlet and open the stop cock under the pump. Run the water through the pump for a few minutes to remove the corrosive acids and salts from swimming pool water. This will keep your pump pristine and ready for use.
- After using your pump run it completely out of gas. This will prevent the alcohol in the gas from collecting water and gumming up your carburetor. A good alternative is to purchase canned gas by the gallon at your local hardware that doesn’t have alcohol in it. Direct the hose output back into your pool while running. Make sure you are running water through the pump while running the engine.
- Test your pump twice a year. Once in spring before fire season and once in the fall before you store it away for the winter. If your pump is going to see freezing weather make sure it is dry before storage.
