This constant volume pipe length calculator determines the length of different diameters of standard PVC pipe for the same internal volume in cubic inches.

Constant Volume Pipe Length Calculator
by Titus Nelson, PE
Inventor of the Holey-Moley Digger
Use this Calculator to determine pipe length of different diameters of standard PVC pipe for the same internal volume. Because standard pipe is measured in inches, the output is also in inches. As a result, diameters are of SDR 35 and SDR 26 PVC Pipe. In addition, the standard internal diameters (ID’s) shown are for 4-inch, 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch PVC Pipe.
Consequently, this type of computation is helpful to find the length of a cache tube to hold a given volume. Because digging holes for cache tubes can be an arduous task, using a larger diameter tube can limit the depth needed. As you might expect, the length of pipe decreases as the diameter increases while still meeting the volume criteria.
Finally, try it out. Input 1000 cubic inches for the pipe diameter and see how the length varies for different pipe diameters. Cat 6 Tools, LLC may have some caps and plugs in inventory for various diameters of PVC SDR 35 Sewer Pipe. Give us a call if you are interested. These pipes, caps and plugs are suitable for Cache Tubes. Lastly, if you are thinking of storing water in pipes, the PVC Pipe Water Volume Calculator is a very good companion calculator.
You can also use our other calculators to determine the weight and volume of dirt that comes out of a round hole or a rectangular hole.
Constant Volume Calculator
This calculator outputs the pipe length for various diameters that meet the input volume requirement. The pipe ID’s used in this calculator are for standard SDR 35 and SDR 28 PVC pipe.
Input (volume)
1. Desired Pipe Volume (Cubic Inches)
